[SLE] Compiling sources
I'm having some problems compiling sources. I don't know why but configure scripts doesn't seem to work properly. Most of the times it doesn't find X include, though they're installed. I tried to change the scripts and I found out that I can fix this problem adding to the directory list: /usr/i386-glibc20-linux/ As I'm not very expert can anyone explain me why it use this libraries, that should be old? Moreover configure often doesn't find qt libraries. I tried to install all qt packages (on 6.3 there are several: develop, libraries, compatibility) but it doesn't work. It doesn't seem a version problem as it asks ver. 1.3 and I have 1.4. Can anyone explain me why then? Finally sometimes configure says something about using a compiler different than the one used to compile KDE (this for KDE source applications). What compiler should I use and how can I set the one I want to use? Hi Pierpaolo, * Pierpaolo Da Fieno (pierpaolodf@libero.it) [20000222 20:43]: Firts of all, please refrain from posting in HTML format here. Not every mail editor can display it and it's generally frowned upon here.
I don't know why but configure scripts doesn't seem to work properly. Most of the times it doesn't find X include, though they're installed.
Install the xdevel package, it has what's needed for compiling X11 binaries.
/usr/i386-glibc20-linux/
That's the wrong directory. If you don't intend to run binaries based on glibc 2.0 (such as Oracle), deinstall all glibc20 packages.
Moreover configure often doesn't find qt libraries.
For most packages the environmaent variable QTDIR has to be set, pointing to the directory where qt is installed. On SuSE Linux it should point to /usr/lib/qt. You also need the package qtdevel installed.
What compiler should I use and how can I set the one I want to use?
If you don't intend to compile a 2.0.X kernel, remove packages gcc and
gccfront and install package egcs. For programs written in C++ (e.g. KDE
apps), you also need packages gpp and libgpp.
