[SLE] How Do I Prevent KDE from restarting Apps?
Whenever I log in to KDE, it restarts any apps that were running when I last shut down. I find this *extremely* annoying! Is there any way to prevent this! -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Look carefully at the logout window and select accordingly... Alvaro Novo SuSE 6.4 Kernel 2.2.16 KDE 2 - Beta 5 -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Well, I see the apps listed but I see no way to remove them from the list. Also, needing to do this manually on every logout would be just as annoying as having the apps restart when I next log in! There must be some way to kill this whole concept. I can see the apps listed in Well, I see the apps listed but I see no way to remove them from the list. I can see the apps listed in ".kde/share/config/kdmrc" under the "[Session]" section, so this is probably a clue as to what needs to be done but I still can't find anything to turn it off. -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq

Sorry, I am using KDE 1.94 beta5, where at the logout window you can select whether or not to restore open apps... I went back to KDE1 and, in fact, you are right... and I don't know of a solution to your question. Maybe that's why they included this feature in kde2! I suggest you give KDE2 a shot. There are SuSE rpms out there and installation is really easy. Besides KDE2 has some nice features. Hope I can be of some help next time! I had the same question a few months ago and some one provided the answer. Edit the file /opt/kde/bin/startkde. The last line should read: exec kwm change this line to read exec kwm -nosession and you'll have the behavior you're looking for. The only problem is that this will change it for everyone on your computer. This isn't a problem for me since I'm the only user of my laptop but if it's a multuser system you'll have to convince everyone using it to have the same setting. You can always make a copy of startkde and put it in your ~/bin. Then edit it to your liking and fire away. That way no one else is going to be hurt, and everyone is happy. :-) Just make sure that you have what ~/bin resolves to, before /usr/X11R6/bin, in your $PATH. You probably have to add it as the standard setup for a user under SUSE does not include a bin directory, and hence no ~/bin in the $PATH. Why this is not, I do not understand. But thats me I guess. ;-) Good luck! TJo TJo -- This Email is 100% Virus Free! How do I know? What in startkde can I change to prevent restarting apps? -- ____________________________________________________________________ Robert Paulsen paulsen@texas.net -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
