ok, I checked the archives and I can't find how to fix this problem. I have upgraded to SUSE9.2 and now my CD recorder won't burn, giving me a read error. as root, cdrecord works, so it is a file permissions problem?? yet the /dev/hdd is owned by the user what do I need to change? running kde 3.3.0 and K3b 0.11.17 -- Paul Cartwright Registered Linux user # 367800

A few days ago Sebastian posted something about this problem. Seems it's a kernel problem which is supposed to be getting fixed by the kernel people. You will probably have to wait for the kernel fix or go back to one that did work. Since I did not save the message that's as close as I can get you to an answer. Hi I have run into the same problem after some patches and an apt install of kde 3.3.1. This did work originally straight after the 9.2 install. A workable workaround for me is to modify the menu item that starts k3b to run as root. Everything appears to work this way and I only have the irritation of having to provide the root password.
