[opensuse] Spurious Intel 965G Chipset Detection
Hi, During the first boot following the completion of my 10.2 install, start-up stalled immediately after printing these lines: Starting udevd Linux agpgart interface v0.101 (c) Dave Jones agpgart: Detected an Intel 965G Chipset. This is an ASUS P5B and as far as I know, it has no on-board graphics. I have an nVidia card installed. This did not happen with any of the pre-release versions of 10.2. What went wrong and how to I solve it? Randall Schulz -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It's a P5B Deluxe (w/o on-board WiFi). (http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=307&model=1295&modelmenu=1). It has a P965, not a G965--no on-board graphics.

Never. I eschew superstition. RRS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

heh... me neither... but I'll tell you, .... I have had five(5) count them machines that would not boot, or would not install, until ACPI was turned off... and I can't tell you why... and nobody else can tell ME why?? But I agree, there has to be a reason, right? -- Kind regards, M Harris <>< -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

It worked just fine on 10.2 Alpha5, Beta1 and RC1. This was the first release for which the problem showed up. The most common problems have been the non-Intel IDE support provided by a JMicron chip ('cause Intel's latest chipsets don't include IDE support, just SATA) and a improper selection of driver for one of the Ethernet ports. Both of those had work-arounds and have since been fixed.
