In general, ALL linux systems that use RPM-based packages, require that "root" be used to install the packages. If you don't have the password, you cannot install an RPM.
Zope is installed and running but i cannot access the "manage" area ( http://localhost:8080/manage ) because i haven't got the user:password Laurent Renard Steve Kratz wrote:

I recently installed zope/plone on SuSE from source, so I can't vouch for the rpm installation. But it is supposed that during the installation/configuration process, zope asks for the username/pw of the admin account. When installing from source, after installing the binaries ('make install') one has to run the 'mkzopeinstance.py' script to create a default zope instance on the server. The script will ask for the location of the new instance, as well as for the username/pw of the admin account. I would suppose that installing from rpm is not very different in this regard. Have you run the mkzopeinstance.py script? Have you created the default instance yet? Thanx for your help ;) but it doesn't help ... i will rebuild zope & plone from source tomorrow and re-try what you propose Best regards ;) Laurent Renard Andreas Philipp wrote:

I have just seen on the Plone website that the plone rpms distributed there install a default instance with the user/pw = plone/plone. You haven't told us from which rpm you have installed your server, but maybe this is what you are looking for. Installing from source is very easy and straightforward, I didn't have any problem at all. Good luck! -- Andreas Philipp Noema Ltda. Bogotá, D.C. - Colombia

Please do not top-post. The *first* thing _usually_ to do after installing a program and having difficulty making the pieces work is to "Read the Fine Manual" and all of the manual is *usually* not just the man/info-page. following is from /usr/share/doc/packages/zope/README.SuSE Post installation notes ----------------------- Default system account is: user superuser, password 123. You should change system password by 'zpasswd'. It is wise to set also some domain restriction for this user. zpasswd creates a file named $ZOPE_HOME/inituser. This file is read---and then removed---by zope when it is being started. Therefore, after changing the initial password with 'zpasswd' zope needs to be restarted. (Zope adds the user to the root acl_users folder.) The so-called emergency user can be created with the command 'zpasswd access'. After installation, zope is set up to use its own web server. If you want to use Apache with Zope (thru PCGI), set ZOPE_PCGI=yes in /etc/sysconfig/apache (see also variable ZOPE_KEEP_HOMES). More options for Zope can be found in /etc/sysconfig/zope! More options for Zope can be found in /etc/sysconfig/zope or via 'yast2 sysconfig &' in section 'Network/WWW/Zope'. $ZOPE_HOME is /opt/zope/. For German documentation feel free to visit www.dzug.org, website of Deutsche Zope User Group (DZUG). Note: Apache redirection is configured in /etc/httpd/zope.conf. This configuration file is included from /etc/httpd/httpd.conf by Apache web server. there also exists ZopeBook-xx.pdf at the same location. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org HOG # US1244711 Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/photos

all my pathes are ok ... have a good day Laurent Renard Patrick Shanahan wrote:
