Dell laptop for $600.... likely to run SuSE 9.X??
Dell is having a sale -- ends tomorrow, Wednesday. They're offering a laptop for just $600. Is there any way to predict that this unit is likely or unlikley to work with SuSE 9.1 or, hopefully, 9.2? Here's the URL with the details. http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&oc=i1000R1&s=dhs Thanks! Gil

I don't see anything strange about this laptop and it looks a good buy, I have installed up to 9.2 on a variety of laptops including x86_64 Acer 1501LCe and last night I installed 9.2 on an old Fujitsu E360 (P-II 333/64M + 20Gig HD) and it was a shoe-in install compared to the problems of upgrading the x86_64 laptop and the horrors on this XP3000+ box. I have a 1150 running suse 9.1 right now. Only problem was with the video. Problem went away when I upgraded the bios. I got the wireless card for it and using linuxant it goes on the air reliably, much more so than with XP which I rarely use. In fact, I expect to delete the xp partition pretty soon. Cant tell you about the 1000 but I think they are pretty close. Dell has a two or three week return with no questions. However, it starts to run when they ship the thing. Caveat emptor!
