Hi I have a SuSE Linux 6.1 box acting as a mail server and internet gateway. I would like to set up a dns server on it so that other machines on my network ask it for DNS-Lookups instead of asking my ISP. I don't just want it to have local addresses - it should give the IP for any address on the internet. Can someone give details on how to do this or point me in the right direction? Many Thanks, Andrew
check out oreilly's dns/bind book it's really good and helped me set up a local dns for my office

I assume the following: Your ISPs nameservers have the IP addresses 1.2.3.4 and 1.2.3.5 Your local LAN is 192.168.0.0/24 Then use the following clause in /etc/named.conf options { directory "/var/named"; allow-query { 192.168.0.0/24; }; forwarders { 1.2.3.4; 1.2.3.5; }; forward only; }; -tosi
