I'm also having problems with Opera. I started with V5 and now run V6 TP3, but Java has never worked for me. I get grey boxes stating that the applet is loading and an extra Java (debugging?) window appears which doesn't let me do a thing. Geraint.

Opera released the new 6 beta yesterday, so far it has taken care of the issues I was having with tp3. You might give it a try. Up to 6.0tp3 there was a bug that would not load some java applets. The solution was to open a window to say java.sun.com see if it loads the news ticker and then keep it open while browsing to other java sites. 6.0 beta 1 was recently released which I think addressed this problem.

One of the problems I had for a while when trying to get java to work with opera was that you had to specify the plugin location for opera's plugin wrapper usually,
/plugins. The module is named libnpp.so. Make sure you have downloaded the java plugin, and then specify the path to that as well. Hit 'Find Plugins' and it should show up. I've installed Opera 6 Beta 1. I went to java.sun.com and got this from the little Java window that pops up (still getting just a grey box - but it didn't do this before): java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:320) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:133) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:120) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:273) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:100) at sun.net.NetworkClient.doConnect(NetworkClient.java:50) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.doConnect(HttpClient.java:97) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:331) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:517) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:267) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:228) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:57) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.New(HttpClient.java:69) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.privBlock(HttpURLConnection.java:113) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection$PrivilegedBlockAction.run(HttpURLConnection.java:402) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.connect(HttpURLConnection.java:148) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(HttpURLConnection.java:321) at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:798) at Util.readData(Util.java:20) at News.createFeeds(News.java:84) at News.init(News.java:68) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:344) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.maf_run(MotifAppletViewer.java:127) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.run(MotifAppletViewer.java:123) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:484) java.net.NoRouteToHostException: No route to host at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.socketConnect(Native Method) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.doConnect(PlainSocketImpl.java:320) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connectToAddress(PlainSocketImpl.java:133) at java.net.PlainSocketImpl.connect(PlainSocketImpl.java:120) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:273) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Socket.java:100) at sun.net.NetworkClient.doConnect(NetworkClient.java:50) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.doConnect(HttpClient.java:97) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:331) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(HttpClient.java:517) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:267) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:228) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.<init>(HttpClient.java:57) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.New(HttpClient.java:69) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.privBlock(HttpURLConnection.java:113) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection$PrivilegedBlockAction.run(HttpURLConnection.java:402) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.connect(HttpURLConnection.java:148) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(HttpURLConnection.java:321) at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:798) at Util.readData(Util.java:20) at News.createFeeds(News.java:85) at News.init(News.java:68) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:344) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.maf_run(MotifAppletViewer.java:127) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.run(MotifAppletViewer.java:123) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:484) java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException at News.setFeedRange(News.java:138) at News.init(News.java:69) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(AppletPanel.java:344) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.maf_run(MotifAppletViewer.java:127) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.MotifAppletViewer.run(MotifAppletViewer.java:123) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:484)
Anyone know how/where I configure Java? I need to tell it about our proxy server. Thanks, Geraint.
