I am trying to install multisync in suse 9.0. It is on the dvd, but when I select it there are multiple unresolved dependencies. Many but not all seem to be version number related. I tried to find files on the net to meet the requirements, but it seems to be nearly impossible. I would greatly appreciate any advice. Bernie Gardner

Sorry, Bernie, but I'm at a loss as to what software you're trying to install. Fred -- "...Linux, MS-DOS, and Windows XP (also known as the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly)."

Hi Fred. multisync is a program plus plugins for syncing, among other devices, a Zaurus PDA.. It is in the suse 9.0 distribution under the Applications/Productivity group, but for some reason is missing multiple dependencies. One is libcrypto.so.2. libcrypto is apparently provided by openssl, but the version in suse 9.0 provides libcrypto.so.0.9.7. There are other examples like this as well as dependencies which aren't in the distribution at all. I can live without it, but it would be nice, and it seems strange that suse would include a package with so many required things missing. I though someone might have heard of the problem and a solution. Thanks for thinking about it anyway. Bernie Gardner

OK. Where did you get your 9.0? I can't find multisync on my 9.0 Pro DVD. AFAIK this is not provided by SUSE. 'pin multisync' returns no results. Stan

Yep! pin multisync grepping /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz ... please wait pin 0.29 - package info for multisync ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** no rpm named multisync installed ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------------ *** zgrep multisync /var/lib/pin/ARCHIVES.gz ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hmmm! Regional/country specific variations? Cheers, Curtis.

Sorry folks. I finally figured out the situation. I had downloaded a version of multisync a few months ago. When I installed 9.0, I backed up, did fresh install and restored the old files, including the multisync rpm. I hadn't looked at the multisycn since until the last couple of days, but had added the directory where it was stored to the yast list of rpm sources. Apparently yast picked it up and listed it as application/productivity group. I came across it and was pleased to see suse had added it and tried to install it. So the dependency problems are still there, but it wasn't suse's fault. I may figure it out or may find other ways of backing up the pda. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to respond and my apologizes to the list for the wasted bandwidth! Bernie Gardner
