Apache2 SSL for Dummies
I am trying to setup Apache2 on a SuSE 10 box to use SSL, but I am not having any luck. I have searched for useful documentation, but the instructions that I tried, does not seem to work. I can create a certificate and install it, but then when Apache starts up, it askes for a password and then disables SSL support. Any documentation for Dummies? http://www.modssl.org/docs/2.8/ssl_faq.html#ToC25 Pay special attention to the section headed "How can I get rid of the pass-phrase dialog at Apache startup time? " (The actual explanation of what's happening is that the suse default of the amount of time apache waits for the passphrase defaults to 2 seconds. You need to either fix that (I recommend 240 seconds, but I have a long passphrase) or follow the instructions above.) Did you read: /usr/share/doc/packages/apache2/README.QUICKSTART.SSL ? I'm working on this as well, it's hard to tell what to do on suse exactly,as they split up the httpd.conf in many different pieces to make it modular. Which is good of course... But now wat do we need to change? Is it /etc/apache2/ssl-global.conf, /etc/apache2/listen.conf copy /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.template to ??? to obtain a secure (443) vhost?
