Just wondering if anybody has a SCSI DVD drive and has it working under Linux, and has any positive/negative comments? I'm thinking of taking the plunge. I notice that there aren't very many SCSI DVD drives on the market, almost everything is IDE. I'll go with ide if I have to, but would rather not. Robert Storey in sunny, polluted Taiwan

Thanks for the post. I was wondering if SCSI DVD existed because that is what I want for my system Damon Register

Robert Storey in sunny, polluted Taiwan In order to install linux on boxes which come with unlabeled Toshiba SCSI DVD drives, I've had to plug in an old junkbox CDROM. The latest distros appear to be able to use but not install from such drives. -- Tim Prince
I have a Toshiba SCSI DVD drive from which I can do everything as exected. It runs great! (It was nice to finally become IDE-free, but alas, I digress). Vendor: TOSHIBA Model: DVD-ROM SD-M1401 Rev: 1009 Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02 -- Andy Stewart, Founder Worcester Linux Users' Group Worcester, MA USA http://www.wlug.org
I'm using a scsi Pioneer 305S slot DVD drive. Definitely less CPU usage than my IDE DVD drive. Suse 8.0 pro recognizes it without problems and Xine uses it perfectly.
