Having installed SuSE 8.1 and Gnome2, I now hve metacity installed as the default wm. However, it has one very irritating feature - when a window gains the input focus, it pops to the front. Is there any way to disable this? I've tried to find info on the net to no avail. I've no particular religious devotion to any wm, but I *hate* this feature, because it makes it so hard to work with windows. I might just go back to sawfish... As an aside, and anticipating a positive response - does anyone know of a metacity theme that places the close icon on the top left of the window? In the GConf editor, change /apps/metacity/general/auto_raise to be unticked

I believe not, Metacity was never designed for extreme configurability, but for speed & performance, and Havoc won't implement features he considers 'crack' Placing of Window bar buttons would be considered 'crack' :) -- James Ogley, Unix Systems Administrator, Pinnacle Insurance Plc james.ogley@pinnacle.co.uk www.pinnacle.co.uk +44 (0) 20 8731 3619 Using Free Software since 1994, running GNU/Linux (SuSE 8.0) Updated GNOME RPMs for SuSE Linux: www.usr-local-bin.org *********************************************************************** CONFIDENTIALITY. I've checked this and it's unticked, but I still get focused windows popping to the front. Any hints? I've worked out what's happening - "auto-raise" is only optional if you have "mouse" or "sloppy" focus. If you have "click" focus, it behaves like Windows. Yuck. I'll post a suggestion to the metacity people about this, as it's a silly decision, given that the option is there for the other two states.
