Thanks Bahram, that's what I was looking for. I ran the above and then changed my grub.conf from install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/stage1 d (hd0) /grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,4)/grub/menu.lst to install --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 /grub/stage1 d (fd0) /grub/stage2 0x8000 (hd0,4)/grub/menu.lst and it worked from floppy. All I had to do then was fdisk /MBR in MSDOS to reset the HD.
