Forgot to add, if you're wanting to make the system boot up without the GUI login screen, change the default run level in /etc/inittab to 3 either by using YaST2 -> System -> System Services, or by editing it directly. - Joel You can use init 3 to stop it and init 5 to restart. If you want to turn it off permanently, edit /etc/inittab and change the 5 in id:5:initdefault: to 3.

Nope, but you can do it two ways: 1. Edit /etc/inittab and change the default init to 3, or 2. Start yast2 change in System/sysconfig-Editor/Desktop/Display manager/DISPLAYMANAGER the entry from kdm/gdm to console. Thus you will stay in init 5 but kdm/gdm wont start. - -- All the best, Peter J. The GUI is 5. Apparently, you want run level 3 (multi-user with networking) $ su password: # init 3 # exit $ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
