knewsticker does it, but it has an annoying presence in the panel. I was after something like the summary pane in evolution or kontact, but standalone. Some nosing around on the web suggested straw, I tried to get it working, got mired in the mud of python version mismatches. Henry

MozillaFirebird has extensions (RSS & NewsMonster) available and both work. I prefer newsmonster but believe that it trashed a drive partition for me (jury still out) and it requires too much system resource for by aged equipment. RSS works decently and I have used it almost exclusively rather than reloading and scanning normal pages like yahoo, cnn, myway, etc. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

I installed RSS and two feeds. The side panel is there but nothing happens, no news. I made a new folder under "bookmarks", told RSS that that was the list of feed URLs, their icons show in the side panel, but they don't show any headlines. Is there some trick I may have left out? Thanks, Henry Harpending

You probably didn't put the rss feeds into the rss_bookfolder. Is it empty? -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

It probably is empty: I clicked and clicked and clicked and could find nothing about any rss_bookfolder. Any hints or guidance welcome. Oh for the days when "graphical user interface" meant vi's insistence that one type ":q!" to exit without saving. Thanks, Henry Harpending

I do not believe that vi will help you here. Clicking on an empty bookmark folder in a graphical browser normally will open an empty bookmark folder. ie: drinking from an empty glass is not fulfilling.

Add: http://www.usr-local-bin.org/ulb.xml http://sourceforge.net/export/rss2_projnews.php?group_id=42064 To the folder you created from RSS. It's morning now. -- Patrick Shanahan Registered Linux User #207535 http://wahoo.no-ip.org @ http://counter.li.org

To the folder you created from RSS.
Works fine now: turns out I was using a Firebird nightly build which needs a different version. After I got the right version all works as advertised. Henry Harpending

Have a look at superkaramba and it's related themes. It's able to display the rss on the desktop background. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless
