I caught wind of this based on another post, but I didn't understand why. I see that SuSE has released a bunch on KDE updates in the "supplementary" directory of their FTP servers. There are also a few updates in the "misc" directory. Does anyone here know why? Don't get me wrong; I think this is really cool. I just don't know what's triggered it. The post I read suggested their was a problem with KDE programs looking up host names, but I wouldn't think that ALL of those packages would need to be recompiled to fix that, so I don't know what's going on. I really wish that this would be the start of SuSE keeping their distro a little more current between releases, but I don't want to get my hopes up. I know that six months between releases isn't really that long, but things like beagle make me wonder: if it goes "gold" in a month, will SuSE repackage it and make it available in the supplementary updates? I'm really hoping so. Regards all, dk

What are you talking about? You've been on this list for ages. Don't tell me you haven't discovered the supplementary packages until now? They've always been there. Every time there's a new KDE release, we get the packages in the supplementary directory. Sometimes there's even a few gnome packages :) As for Beagle I don't know, but you can rest assured that the newer KDE packages will be there

Yeah, I've been around, and I've seen this before, but it's been since, like 8.2 that I remember a supplement as substantial. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention. I'm not a "KDE" guy. I like KDE, and I think it's better technology, but I like the *apps* better on the Gnome side, and so I just run the desktop to make it all more consistent. So are you saying that there is, indeed, newer "stuff" in those KDE packages, or are they just bug fixes? dk P.S. In addition to beagle, another issue that comes to mind is gaim. That app gets rev'ed all the time, sometimes for security reasons. I wish SuSE would repackage at least that one on the Gnome side.

If it's a bug in the base libraries then it's possible that ALL KDE packages would need to be recompiled against the new libs.

What do you mean? SuSE keeps very much up to date - KDE 3.4 was available for 9.2 (at least) mere days after it was released!

What is beagle? Dylan
