Hi all Can somebody tell if a Beowulf linux cluster was implemented using Suse Linux distribution. If yes, where can I find the documentation about such the Beowulf cluster using Suse Linux distribution. Look in Change/Create Configuration in YaST; IIRC, the section is called [beo]. I've never done it myself, but a coworker of mine says that it's uber-easy to set up a PVM cluster. -- -=|JP|=- Jon Pennington | Atipa Linux Solutions -o) jpennington@atipa.com | http://www.atipa.com /\\ Kansas City, MO, USA | 816-241-2641 x121 _\_V 6D04 39E0 CAE9 9ADA 2CA3 2EBE 898A 6C37 CA1E A29C -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

Yes, we have a (small) beowulf cluster here. It's running 6.2 at the moment, but we'll upgrade to 6.4 as soon as we get the CDs. It isn't more complicated to set up a cluster using SuSE than it is if you're using Red Hat or whatever. In later versions SuSE ships with the most important cluster tools (MPI,PVM etc.). There are som cluster howtos out there, and while it's correct that most of them are written from a Red Hat point of view, the information is basically applicable to SuSE systems as well. The difference mostly has to do with directory paths, and if you know SuSE fairly well, it should be rather easy to sort it out. You can find a "Beowulf cluster mini-howto" here: http://www.fysik.dtu.dk/CAMP/cluster-howto.html If you're not sure what the differences are between Linux distros, you can have a look at this page: http://userweb.interactive.net/~revf2/LPI/ Even though the page is getting old, the information there is mostly correct. All you really need to do to have a running cluster, is to make sure the nodes in the cluster can reach each other through a network, and that the users can move between the nodes without the need for submitting a password. If you've done this, MPI and PVM should work without a flaw. Now, this will also mean that security on your boxes _sucks_, so in order to prevent outsiders from doing nasty things to your cluster, you should make sure that the cluster uses an internal net (192.168.*.*). In addition you can have a look at several packages like MOSIX, SMILE and several queueing systems if you have many users and want to do more fancy administration stuff. -- ---J.T.U. /==================================================================\ | Jon Trygve Utne |e-mail: jont@ii.uib.no | | Department of Informatics | Jon.Utne@mi.uib.no | | University of Bergen, Norway | Jon.Utne@student.uib.no | | Tlf(work) +47 55 58 82 95 |"Smith & Wesson: The original| | URL: http://www.ii.uib.no/~jont | point and click interface" | \==================================================================/ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
