[opensuse] Xen +Suse 10.1 +WinXPSP2
I have been trying for a week to install WinXPsp2 on Del LOatitude D820 with 2 core duo 7600 processor (vanderpool), 2 GB RAM using either Yast Xen manager or manually following http://en.opensuse.org/Xen_Full_Virtualization_Example. It gets about 2/3 installing devices, then locks up the machine hard. Only way out is power switch. I have tried this both in 64-bit and 32-bit SuSE 10.1 (remastered) and get the same thing. I tried Fedora FC6 which is Xen 3.0.3 versus 3.0.2 in Suse and the 2.6.18 kernel. It gets a little further where the dialog box comes up for time zone, etc. then locks up the virtual machine. I can get out by killing the virtual machine, so at least it does not lock up the entire computer there. I have also tried this with MSI KN NEO destop motherboard with Athelon 64X2 AM2 socket +3800. I get the same thing except I have not tried Fedora on it yet. On the Fedora FC6 I get the following with xm dmesg that I cannot get on Suse since it locks up the machine. Hi Art,
I have not tested with other hardware assembly than written here. Have you tried openSUSE 10.2 beta or SLES10? Or Xen mailing list http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/srg/netos/xen/ may available for detailed discussion on Xen in various envirinments. Sorry this is all ideas I have. noniko --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
I haven't installed SP2 on my WinXP install, but I have done SP1 on Win2k3 Standard Server under Xen on SLES10 x86 and x86_64 using full virtualization on the AMD X2 4200+ AM2 socket. I do SDL for the install, it seems to run the smoothest for me that way, and then change it to VNC for normal running. Good luck, -Alain.

Hi Art, I'm so sorry for my late reply. I had been apart from SUSE envrionment for a week. It was only yesterday I got openSUSE 10.2 beta 2 downloaded, and tested it. I found Xen in openSUSE beta2 is 3.0.3. But unfortunately, it didn't boot. Curiously, there is no initrd-xen archive in /boot folder, though its "link" exists. This Xen has still another problem, that Xen section is not auto-registered to /boot/menu.lst. RC1 is going to released to, I am much expecting Xen bugfix in it. But it would take a few days to test it after RC1 release, because the traffic would be busy. noniko noniko@netbeans.jp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I downloaded the x86-4 10.2 and found the same thing you did. There is a guy in france who has done it with 10.2 and sent some information on the Xen mail list. He will get back to me on the exact syntax supposedly today, or maybe it is tomorrow our time. (I am in Taiwam it is Monday night here. Hi,Art Thanks for the very useful information!
There is a guy in france who has done it with 10.2 and sent some information on the Xen mail list.
I found the thread in xen-users@list.xensource.com. It's titled "Success Story" isn't it? Great to know Xen goes in Core 2 duo! (I can manage now by my Core Duo, so I will wait for openSUSE 10.2 release). And it's great too you are now in Taiwan. I live in Japan, very close. noniko noniko@netbeans.jp -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Great news, just got WinXP installed under Xen in Suse 10.2 Beta. It took almost a month and I was about to give up. I will be moving to Shanghi next year. Hope to make it to Japan in the near future, was there about 10 years ago on business trips, but would like to spend some vacation time there and see some of the country. Maybe be able to meet you then. Art -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
