[opensuse] Skype users?
HI all, I'm trying to set up skype on my system. I d/l'ed the Linux software last night. Now I have two problems. #1 when I click on the test call it tells me: "Problem with audio playback" but when I click a second time the call goes thru. #2 for some reason the mike is set to as low as possible it sounds like someone whispering across the room from me. I've turned the volume up on all the controls that I can fine. But I'm guessing that I've missed one. Any ideas? From my experience the sound playback problem is intermittent - I encounter it sometimes and not others. Depends on the network state,
the Skype servers, etc, I reckon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Boris. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Are you using a USB headset? Onboard AC/97 sound card? Soundblaster? Open Skype and click the menu button (light blue icon in the lower left of the Skype applet). Go to Options > Sound Devices and make sure "Sound In" and "Sound Out" are set to the devices you want to use (ie on mine both are set to Logitech Wireless Headset (plughw.Headset,0)). Do you have the checkbox for "Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels" checked or unchecked? Try the other state. Are you using KDE? Gnome? or something else? Open the sound mixer and adjust the Mic levels. In KDE4.3, I use KMix. In KMix, the USB Headset mic volume slider is (for some unknown reason) not shown by default. Select the tab for the audio device you want to use, and go to Settings > Configure Channels and select Mic. Click OK, and adjust the slider volume for the Mic. If you're using Gnome or some other DE, I assume the steps are very similar to the volume applet there. That's about all I can think of. I use Skype a lot in combination with a USB headset, and it generally works fine with no complaints about volume levels.
