[SLE] Network printing problem
I have already posted a call for help but did not get much response. Let's try again. I have this 4 computers home network: - a server with a hp890 connected - 2 windows boxes connected via samba - 1 newly set up linux box. For some obscure reason that eludes me, I can't print from from the linux box - I thought it would be easier than from a win box via samba, but it is apparently not the case. I followed the instructions in the SuSe handbook, i.e use Apsfilter and set up a remote printer first, then a local hp890 prefilter. Another question I have is how can I browse the linux box from the server? i naively thought I could use Linneighborhood, but it is samba-only. How do I mount a drive from the linux box on the server? I would appreciate any advice. thanks fx -- ______________________ Courtesy of SuSE Linux Kernel 2.2.14 (but who cares?) I'm sorry, I can't help you with printer problems - never set one up under Linux (don't have a printer here) :(

What is the server running? If you have Samba set up correctly on the Linux box, it should just be a case of using smbmount on the server. I'm not sure about LinNeighbourhood, but I'm going to look into it, as I've been looking for something similar... The most important question is what is the server running, and what have you tried/not tried, Chris -- __ _ -o)/ / (_)__ __ ____ __ Chris Reeves /\\ /__/ / _ \/ // /\ \/ / ICQ# 22219005 _\_v __/_/_//_/\_,_/ /_/\_\ -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

How is this HP 890 connected to you Linux box? YaST -> System Admin has a pretty good setup tool for printing.

Add an entry to your Linux client's /etc/fstab file saying: erver:/shared_dir /mount_point nfs defaults 0 0 end then put an entry to your servers 7etc/export file saying: /shared_dir (rw) or /shared_dir (r) --Jyry, samovar hacker -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
