Azureus is not a server or daemon process, it's an interactive GUI-based program written in Java. In its installation directory there is a shell script named "azureus". Running this command will start Azureus. It will run continuously after you set up some torrents and act like a server, but the GUI is always an aspect of its operation.

thanx for all the help so far.

I did not use an RPM to install it. I got the tarball from the Azureus Web site and installed it into /usr/local then created a desktop icon to lauch its start-up script. Randall Schulz
In the SUSE SUPER distro Azureus is installed by default. That distro is
small (1 CD) and is superfast and looks very slick. It uses apt-get and Klik
to get new software alongside the normal Yast update. It is simply THE
default system install for getting the most performance out of your PC.

Michael, did you follow all of the instructions from the apt for SuSE page? Did you updated your /etc/apt/sources.list? If so, then, from command line (as root): # apt-get update # apt-get install azureus That's it, now you can start azureus from Internet menu/Peer to Peer Cheers -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)
my apt -get says that the pakage does not exist. it has a lot of pakage lists, that it made.i suppose this server was not one of them.i updated /etc/apt/sources.list? as the instructions.it took a while while updating the files/servers. On Thursday 05 January 2006 20:04, Sunny wrote:

Common error with apt-get. You need to edit your apt gpg configuration file so it does not stop installing packages with an unknown signature. There's a SuSEwiki page to help you here: FX http://forums.suselinuxsupport.de/index.php?showtopic=25826

I would not recommend this. That way you trust always any package you install. Better follow the instructions on apt for suse page to load all known rpmkeys. After a successful update (apt-get update) try this: # apt --no-checksig install rpmkey* This will install almost all rpmkeys you need for that repository, including suser-gbv's, who is the packager for azureus. Then it will not fail to install. And whenever you need to install a package with unknown signature, and you trust this package, do it the same way (apt --no-checksig), do not make a permanent accept in the config file. If you use synaptic, the co to internal options, and there for variable type "GPG::Check" and for the value - "false". Click set, and then close the message box. This will disable the signature check for the current session. Cheers -- -- Svetoslav Milenov (Sunny)

Erik, You can use any port in Azureus, but you must also open that port for incoming traffic in your firewall, and route the traffic to the IP where your Azureus runs. I have 4 Azureus processes running on different boxes, no problems at all, just set a unique port for every instance, and unsure it's opened and routed in the firewall. -- Anders Norrbring Norrbring Consulting

You can install it from ftp://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/linux/misc/suser-gbv/rpms/SuSE_10.0 or you can add 'suser-gbv' repository in your sources.list to get it easily.
