Since v10.1 was released the kernel has now been upgraded 3 times (...16.13-4 > ...16.21-0.13 > ...16.21-0.21 > ...16.21-0.25). This has created 'duplicated' files in /boot and in /usr/src for the replaced kernels, files like System.map, initrd, symsets, etc. All these redundant files add up to a bit of disk space. May I assume that it is safe to delete all these 'dups' and leave only the files relating to the latest kernel and the previous version of the kernel (for which grub has an entry)? Could you create a bug report with details, please?

This as always been so, I think. Most of them seem to be files that are not in the rpm, but created on site, specially if we recompile the kernel. This is what I currently have: /kernel-modules 0 ~linux 20 /linux-2.6.11.4-21.11 1186M /linux-2.6.11.4-21.12 1186M /linux-2.6.16.13-4 209137K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.13 216583K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.21 229682K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.25 439074K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.25-obj 6563899 ~linux-obj 24 I have freed some gigs now. I simply forgot. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Ok, if you recompile a kernel, this is true - but if not then you shouldn't have them.
This is what I currently have:
/kernel-modules 0 ~linux 20 /linux-2.6.11.4-21.11 1186M /linux-2.6.11.4-21.12 1186M /linux-2.6.16.13-4 209137K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.13 216583K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.21 229682K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.25 439074K /linux-2.6.16.21-0.25-obj 6563899 ~linux-obj 24
I have freed some gigs now. I simply forgot.

Andreas
Welllll....I am running 10.0 64 bit and I have 3 versions. 2.6.13-15.10, 11, & 12 I do not compile the kernel. In the past I just used to go in and delete old versions. I run lilo and the current kernel version only with failsafe. Do we have a bug here? Bob S.

That's what Andreas indicates - it's a bug. Cheers. -- "Every burned book enlightens the world." Ralph Waldo Emerson

OK. (But I didn't know that it would be considered a bug. It's hard to tell the difference between a 'feature' and a 'bug' in these modern times :-) .)

Yes,
Thank you. Cheers. -- "Every burned book enlightens the world." Ralph Waldo Emerson

Sorry, Andreas, but contrary to my previous message stating that I will submit a bug report on this I now won't because I just got fed-up trying to get past the "login"/"create an account" rubbish to be able to submit the report. I've been on the Novell/Suse site before, have a login name but it is not accepted and the damn system won't let me create an account 'cause, it tells me, I already have one; I've asked for those login details because I "forgot both" and have now been waiting for over around 20 minutes for the e-mail from Novell. Pigs will fly. I'll just delete the redundant directories/files and get on with life. Cheers. -- "Every burned book enlightens the world." Ralph Waldo Emerson
