Morning, I received my 3 DVD kit from Novell yesterday and it has an Evaluation version of 9.1 on the third DVD. Does anyone else have this and how is it an Evaluation? Is it time locked or are some of the functions disabled? Or is it just Novells way of saying you won't get support until it's registered? thanks. PS. Cider and playing Football doesn't mix. -- Shaun Murphy Linux user number 359024 SuSE 9.1, a headache and some cursing..

3 DVD? the package you received seems completely different from what is distributed to "paying" customers... when I buyed my SuSE 9.1 Pro, what I got was a package with 2 (TWO) dvd double sided (side 1 disk 1 i386 edition, side 2 disk 1 x86_64 edition, disk 2 only sources) and 5 (FIVE) cds for the i386 edition.

Seems to be complete here (no source), with no time limits mentioned that I see. But no support and no manual unless registered. Install had some problems with hardware scanning and coldplug scanning but I defeated these and now it is up and running. -- Tony Alfrey tonyalfrey@earthlink.net "I'd rather be sailing"

Most likely the other stuff contains Novell's Linux software at a guess...The other DVD with SuSE, no idea, but I'd imagine it would be the same as the FTP version. Matt

The Novell offering was not about free 9.1, but about evaluation versions of United Linux, Ximenes Desktop and 8.2 & 9.1. It was not intended as a freeby (AFAIK) to avoid downloading 9.1. Mine are going into my company for evaluation, as I have already bought and registered 9.1 Pro. Terence

[snip] For those like me who didn't get the Roman Catholic Linux reference. The a.m. message refers to a typo: Ximenes linux Didacus Ximenes A Spanish Dominican of the sixteenth century; noted as a theologian, philosopher, and astronomer; d. 1560. He took his licentiate in law at Salamanca, and there, before Christmas, 1543, received the habit of the Friars Preachers from the hands of Dominic Soto, then prior of the Dominican convent at Salamanca. The vocation of Ximenes to the religious state seemed miraculous; for, while rector of the College of Cuenca at Salamanca, the king came to esteem him so highly that he was about to honour him with judicial dignity when, all unexpectedly, Ximenes was summoned to the Dominican convent by an unknown priest of the same order, who predicted that in a short time he would give up the practice of law for the religious life in the Order of Preachers. Although this prediction was received with laughter, it was soon verified. Ximenes obtained the degree of Bachelor (in the Dominican sense) in his province, and on 11 April, 1559, was chosen socius to Bartholomew Carranza, Archbishop of Toledo, and by him sent to Segobia with special letters to the vicar and definitors of the provincial chapter gathered there, to dissuade the members of the chapter from re-electing Melchior Cano as provincial. His efforts, however, were fruitless. Chief among Ximenes' works are: "Calendarium perpetuum, sive Ordo recitandi divini officii juxta ritum Ordinis Praedicatorum" (Salamanca, 1563; Antwerp, 1566); "De eruditione religiosorum", in Spanish. regards, Sorry for the OT, but I couln't miss a good belly laugh. ===== Riccardo G. Actually, I was thinking more of Cardinal Francisco Ximénez de Cisneros, at one time one of the main officers of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - better known as the holy inquisition (the first leader of which was Thomas Torquemada, hence the reference in Fergus' mail :)
