Is there any sign of Gnome2.4 being ported to SUSE9 - preferably via APT? I have it on a magazine cover disk as about thirty tarball packages. Knowing my luck with compiling tarballs, there is no possibility whatever of it all installing correctly! It was the same with Garnome when I once tried it. The reason for asking, is that I have installed Mandrake9.2 from magazine cover disks on to a spare hard drive, just to have a look at it. The only good thing about it was Gnome2.4, and that looked rather nice. WWW.Gnome.org has been "down" all morning so I can't check what is available as RPMs. Many thanks Keith

If I ever get around to doing it, it'll be available by APT, but it's looking increasingly unlikely that it'll happen this side of 9.1 (when I expect it'll be in SuSE anyway)

I haven't tried Garnome with 9.0 when I built the 2.4 release version on 8.2 it worked fine.

IIRC they don't have official SuSE packages. Well, I'm hoping to see a XD2.1 (or somesuch) refresh for 9.0, but it's probably a slim hope.

I tried Garnome on 8.2 and had all sorts of problems, not the least of which was lack of disk space. (It takes several gigs for all the source and the build space.) I eventually gave up. Evolution wouldn't build because of some problem with the Pilot stuff, and I wanted that especially. I'm thinking of trying again on 9 just for the fun of it, but I'd love to hear from you if there was some big gotcha about the gnome-pilot stuff that I ought to know... Regards all, dk

Many thanks for the information, James. I was just wondering what the situation was with SUSE. Cheers Keith
Any hope this ends the nautilus2 crash nightmare??

Sometime, when I have two weeks with nothing else to do and don't mind being driven insane, I may try installing the Gnome2.4 tarballs from the CD :-( On the other hand, I may wait for it to be on the next version of SUSE. Cheers Keith
Well I have only been studying for a few years since before reliable
detection of IDE CDRW.
Not enough time to do that much hacking. Ill wait for 9.1 iff it has
GNOME 2.4 then ill buy.
