Hello Linux folkz, I just compiled 2.4.8 kernel according to my box HW parameters. When I booted it up swap space was mounted OK. Filename Type Size Used Priority /dev/sda1 partition 136512 0 -1 But KPM in KDE shows swap usage as swap (none) and swap used 0K/0K I saw the same picture in KDE Memory - Control Center: Virtual memory 0% 0.00 MB used Is this just a general issue with swap space handling and displaying in 2.4.8 kernel or I've missed something in kernel configuration? Could somebody tell me please how to correct this issue. In my /etc/fstab swap mounting option is defined as: /dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 2 Thank you in advance for any thoughts or ideas. So no swap is used, what is wrong with that? -- Mads Martin Jørgensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A. P. J.

The problem is that KPM in KDE and KDE Memory - Control Center are showing total swap size as swap (none) 0K/0K although previous kernel 2.4.6 displayed it properly as swap 136M 0K/136M even if swap hasn't been used. I doubt if this is right. Thanks Alex -- MS Windows users should be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act! --------------> Try Linux and you'll understand why <--------------

Could somebody tell me please how to correct this issue. In my /etc/fstab swap mounting option is defined as:
1) Calm down 2) Don't touch anything My guess is this is a mis-match (or bug) between KPM and 2.4.8 (I see the same thing) Do a 'free' and see what it says about your swap space. (mine is being used)
/dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 2
Thank you in advance for any thoughts or ideas. Alex

Hello Bruce, Thank you for your response.

On my box 'free' shows that everything is OK total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 513308 199416 313892 0 39612 84956 -/+ buffers/cache: 74848 438460 Swap: 273024 0 273024 The last thing left is to figure out how to fix that mis-match (or bug) between KPM and 2.4.8. What is interesting that up to kernel 2.4.6 everything was normal. It started with kernel 2.4.7 and continues with 2.4.8 Thanks Alex -- MS Windows users should be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act! --------------> Try Linux and you'll understand why <--------------
