Good luck, I've done it before, and it can be hit or miss.
(20 gig hard drives are getting really cheap) :-)
Around $100 or so .

I need to free up some drive space and was wondering if there is a utility out there that will help me to remove unnecessary files.
Failing that - is there a process to follow that will help with freeing up extra space. --
The best thing to do is start yast, change/create configuration, then go through all the checked(installed) packages. Look at the descriptions for each packeage then decide if you have used it recently, or ever intend to. Delete those you don't need. For instance, you can get by with just Gimp; you don't need xpaint, and ImageMajick, etc. They are nice, but if in a pinch for space......... You will be warned that certain packages are neccessary for other packages to work. Most of these dependencies are not critical to system functioning. There is alot of useless large files that come with Pov-Ray, Image-Magick, etc. Don't delete much from series A, or AP; but you can get rid of emacs, if you don't use it. KDE and all it's apps will free up over 100 megs; just use fvwm2, or another minimalist window manager. <p>If you try to run a package later, and it chokes, you can reinstall the needed files then. Good luck, I've done it before, and it can be hit or miss. (20 gig hard drives are getting really cheap) :-)
