[SLE] telling SuSE6.3 about a new version of perl
I have installed Perl v5.6 on my SuSE 6.3 machine, how do I go about configuring SuSE so that it uses the new version rather then the old version? The cleanest solution is to build an rpm and install it instead of perl-5.003. If that's not an option you can put the new version to /usr/local and leave the old one in /usr. Ciao, Stefan
I have attempted to use the ActiveState supplied .rpm on my SuSE 6.4 and run into an error about needing `csh'. Am I missing something simple? -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/

These are the well-known rpm problems, I guess. Install the tcsh package, it should also contain a csh binary, then install the rpm with --nodeps. Or better yet, get the perl sources from the nearest CPAN and compile them yourself. It's really not harder then fiddling with failed rpm dependancies. Is csh actually installed (package tcsh on the CDs). Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer.
