I don't know what distro. Gateway will use, but it's interesting none the less. Hi, For some reason my machine has developed a problem, it sticks during LILO, when booting I get: LILO Boot: Loading Linux-2.2.13...... An then it just hangs forever.. Any ideas Cheers Phil -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
That looks more like a problem with your kernel. Do you have an alternative kernel? When you installed your kernel, did you also install the system.map as well as the relevant modules. My failsafe procedure is to take the original kernel installed, and copy it as vmlinuz.ok, do the same with system.map. Then use make bzlilo modules modules-install. Since the above command backs up the current kernel, and installs the modules, I generally don't get a mismatched situation. You could possibly have caused the situation by moving some of your partitions around. The above command also reruns lilo. On 6 Apr 2000, at 21:57, Phil Shrimpton wrote:

I managed to use the boot disk and 'Boot Installed System' and then noticed that both vmlinuz and system.map had gone 'missing'. A quick 'make bzlilo modules modules-install' fixed the problem, but it is a bit worrying that the two most important files on the system disappeared without trace.
