[opensuse] Change the language on keyboard ?
Hi. I have opensuse10.3 Beta 3 installed here. Choosed Danish as language for my keyboard. But this has changed due to a reason I don't know. How can I change it back to Danish again ?. Using FVWM2 and XFCE. -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Erik Jakobsen erik_ja@mail.tele.dk openSuSE 10.2 (i586) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have both Danish and English setup on my keyboard. I'm using KDE, Gnome is probably different. In the menus go to "Personal Settings" -> "Regional Accessibility" -> "Country/Region & Language" and change the settings to what you desire. You can have more than one language in the "Languages" box. There should then be a little country flag in your doc apps box. Click on that to cycle through your languages. Oh darn, I missed the desktops you're running. I don't know if the procedure I gave you will work under those. Good luck, Jim -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

You could try the setxkbmap command. I use this occasionally (i like US layout when gaming). Something like setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout dk -variant basic might do the trick. Check setxkbmap -help or the man page for correct options. Yast probably has the ability to set this option as well, and otherwise /etc/sysconfig/keyboard might be the place to look. Setting KEYTABLE="dk-latin1.map.gz" in that file would most likely work as well. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

To clarify that, and this is probably the best method for changing it, YaST -> Hardware -> Keyboard Layout The settings should be pretty much self-explanatory. Hi Sylvester. I did open YaST->Keyboard Layout. But that only gave me 2 mainoptions: Layout and Options The only possibility in Layout is to test the keyboard. Here I also should have the option to choose "Type", "Layout" and "Variant" but nothing happens clicking on the arrow down. The Options has nothing to do with the keyboard's language. But I think it's due to that I'm not having installed all for this, as I can see, that I have the necessary on another computer running openSuSE 10.2. What packages could I have missed to install ? -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Erik Jakobsen erik_ja@mail.tele.dk openSuSE 10.2 (i586) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Hi Sylvester.. I got this using the setxkbmap: # setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout dk -variant basic Couldn't interpret _XKB_RULES_NAMES property Use defaults: rules - 'xorg' model - 'pc105' layout - 'us' Couldn't find rules file (xorg) -- Med venlig hilsen / Best regards Erik Jakobsen erik_ja@mail.tele.dk openSuSE 10.2 (i586) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
