Hi All, I'm very new to Linux and I've been having a problem getting a X client started. I'm running SuSE on a Power Macintosh 7200/120 with 144MB of RAM. The version of SuSE I'm running is 6.3 for PPC. The errors I'm getting are as follows: When trying Sax ax: searching for card... done sax: scanning failed switching to VGA16 Server sax: VGA16 Server not installed abort When trying startx There is no link /var/X11R6/bin/x to /user/X11R6/bin/XF86_xxx which is the binary of the installed X-Server Please link the files as mentioned above or install the X Server and run xf86config again I'm aborting Now! There is probably a real simple solution but I just don't get it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Have you actually installed an X server? Try installing the following packages (probably in series 'x' on the CDs): xsvga-3.3.3.1-20 xvga16-3.3.3.1-20 Have a go and see what happens, Chris -- Apologies to everyone who has been waiting for replies off me over the past few weeks - I've been away from my computer. hi i don't exactly get your problem but how about setting your link as ln -sf /var/X11R6/bin/X /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86* to the vga or svga or fbdev Then try running sax. bye cheedu ------------------------------------------------------------------------- email: omicron@pes.edu website: www.geocities.com/sri_dhar_n It is impossible to do anything foolproof because fools are so ingenious ------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Sun, 16 Apr 2000, Bill Heese wrote:
