Does anyone else find SuSE support to be a waste of time or is it just me.
Out of the 10 or so questions I have mailed, I have only ever had a reply to 1 of them.

He did poy for support, 90 days of installation support if he got the pro version and 30 days of installation support for the personal version. Most companies then charge about $40+ for basic troubleshooting and more for other forms of support. Now you need to figure out what does the support cover? Personnally I think its fair, and a great deal, after all is onstalled one has this list and can google for it. Matt On 26 Feb 2003, Ken Schneider wrote:

That explains why I have been having problems. I had misunderstood the extent of the support. I have probably asked more questions on this list than I care to admit to but in 95% of the cases I have received answers and in many cases more than one solution to the question. My sister who uses RH and has seen the way users on this list respond is now switching to SuSE. She and I have both been win doze techs for many years and feel that RH list are like M$ list, full of people that say our way are no way. Bye the way I have only been using linux for less than six months and started with SuSE, sure there are some questions that have not been answered but all in all I really like the list and the people on it. I think it is time to add that many times , if you get no answers at all, it's been a pretty heavy day and perhaps some who skim the Suse mailing list directories will miss a question that might have happily answered. So sometimes it gets a bit hectic, and is guaranteed to be frantic around new releases , both in Europe and the States .. so you ought not be too discouraged when answers don't show up in a couple of hours <VBG> ( I have even heard that *some* people on this list are gainfully employed!! But that is only a rumour. , And we know that many bosses and companies are cracking down on what they see as "waist of company time " Mailing list or "web surfing" Which we always characterize as research to help them save big money in future. It's even true. ;^) b4k4 ^2 me. -- j afterthought: Oh, no! Not *ANOTHER* learning experience!

IIRC the only support that is included w/ the price of a Suse box is what is called "installation support". They will try to help you get the thing running , on mainly standard hardware. Anything other than Installation is not covered. Including getting any particular program or items from the CD that isn't related to getting the Linux distro itself installed and running requires a payment contract of some sort... OF course, I could be wrong .. but I doubt it.

This is very sad, did you get answers from this list? Did you actually PAY SuSE for Support? Last time I looked the price was steepish for SOHO , and really only feasible for Medium to large Companies,. so we rely heavily on this list. And generally , have not had to wait long for answers.. Also , often answers to questions ARE in the Manuals and materials that come w/ the various "pro" releases. I thought I saw someone say there was a pay per incident way to go also. But I can't find the message , yet.. ( I've got more than 20k messages in the SuSE file.. ( and I DO actually back up all those messages and restart the count ) One of these days I'm going to see about putting them all on a cd , or a couple of cds and using them. -- j afterthought: He's not dead, He's electroencephalographically challenged.
