My BIOS turns the Number Lock key on, but at the start of the boot process Linux turns it off. Is there a way of making Linux leave the Number Lock key on? Not a serious problem, but it is irritating to have to keep manually switching the Number Lock key back on. TIA Dave SuSE 7.3 Pro

As you are probably aware each user has a hidden file .Xmopmap in their /home/username. Adding the following to .Xmopmap will force the number pad to act as Number Lock was locked on. keycode 0x5A= 0 keycode 0x57= 1 keycode 0x58= 2 keycode 0x59= 3 keycode 0x53= 4 keycode 0x54= 5 keycode 0x55= 6 keycode 0x4F= 7 keycode 0x50= 8 keycode 0x51= 9 keycode 0x5B= period keycode 0x6C= Return keycode 0x56= plus keycode 0x52= minus keycode 0x3F= asterisk keycode 0x70= slash keycode 0x4d= add the above before the lines !! !! that sounds like alot of needless stuff to do when he can just edit his rc.config file and change the value KDB_NUMLOCK="no" to KDB_NUMLOCK="yes" (on or about line 486 in rc.config) and the next time he reboots is num lock is turned on.

If you use kde then KControl Center -> Peripherals -> Keyboard (Advanced Tab) has just what you need
