Why not 11.2?

Select installation, answer a few questions till you see "update", click it. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. This begs me to ask: What level of experience to you have installing any OS on a computer? The simplest way to install any OS is to boot to the medium and follow the prompts. In this case you have to decide whether or not to start fresh or upgrade. It really is not that hard. -- Ken Schneider SuSe since Version 5.2, June 1998 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I can install any cd/dvd on home computers, if I insert a ubuntu or kubuntu or puppy whatever it usually installs by itself, just easy but this suse 11 has me baffled either if I start of the computer with the dvd inserted already or if I startup with suse 10.3 the computer just stalls or rather either way it starts th #11 dvd and gives me a listing of what to do but whichever I click on, nothing happens. Not much off experience is it no? John -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm tempted to reply but don't know what to say as your run-on sentences can be interpreted too many ways. You have to explain what exactly you do and see in a manner that we understand. We are not there to see for ourselves. How on earth do you see the dvd install menu when you say "if I startup with suse 10.3"? That does not make sense. Assuming that you are booting from the 11.0 install DVD, how can you click on anything on the initial menu? It is grub, there is no mouse. It is impossible to click anything. You have to select an option with the keyboard. If you are booting from the dvd, and when you select an option with the keyboard (cursor up/down, then enter), it does nothing, then I would suggest you run a checksum on the dvd and compare the value with the published one. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. You know I must be stupid or something. When I installed mandrake years ago, when I upgraded that, when I tried out all those LiveCDs, when I installed Suse and whenever I've upgraded Suse, it has never occurred to me to use the mouse/touchpad and "click". Obviously I'm an old reprobate because I always see to keep my hands on the keyboard and use the cursor keys to seelct an option and then the enter key to activate it. Since it always worked I've never had any reason to do it differently until now, and you know what, John? You are absolutely RIGHT! It doesn't work with the mouse. I wonder why not? Knowing this, I'll stick with what always worked in the past. It was good enough for me then, why should I change :-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Use your keyboard to select from the list of items in the menu you saw above. AFAIK, the mouse is not available until after the installation kernel and initrd load, which can only happen at some point after you make a selection what you want done by using your keyboard. -- "Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. 1. Since you have 10.3 installed, are you sure you have 64bit installed? 2. To upgrade to 11.0, you need to select Installation and then wait for it to load. Agree to the license agreement, and then select "Upgrade existing installation"(or something like that). Good luck -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I am still playing with mission impossible, checked usb's connectors, keyboard, mouse etc. and when I reread yours it dawned on me that it may not be not fully automatic, like self starting cd or dvd's. So would you elaborate how you would start an update from a dvd. p.s. it is a dvd and computer designated 64 bit John -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
