/root/.xinitrc: usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM: No such file or directory /root/.xinitrc: exec: /usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM: cannot execute: No such file or directory
The program "RunWM" as you have stated it there will need command line options after it, UNLESS you have a file: $HOME/.wmstyle In "$HOME/.wmstyle" put the name of your window manager, thus: MWM (invoking Fvwm2) 95 (invoking Fvwm2) AfterStep (invoking, well, afterstep) WindowMaker If you don't have that file, don't panic, simply add this to the above: /usr/X11R6/bin/RunWM --AfterStep Try that, and let me know how you get on, Regards, Thomas Adam
Thanks Thomas, No, it didn't achieve anything. I have a home directory, not a $HOME, so I created one. The file .xinitrc is not on the system, so again created one and put it in both home dirs. AfterStep is the cause of the problem, since it was the only thing that loaded I took the brute force method and un installed it a couple of days ago. So in the file I have substituted AfterStep with kde, or should it be KDE. When I get to the login screen the KDE logo is in the corner of the screen. $HOME is a variable pointing to your home directory, not the name of an actual directory or the /home directory. For example, my home directory is /home/edlin if I log in as edlin.

Did you put it in your real home directory?

That means nothing, this is wallpaper that is loaded whether or not you can access KDE from the login menu.
Don't worry about this Joshua - I've got it sorted now. Thanks David On Sat, 17 Nov 2001 19:29:57 -0500, Joshua Lee wrote:
