Can someone remind me how to configure xdm (that is, kdm actually) to bring up X in 100dpi in SuSE-8.1? 'startx -- -dpi 100' works and I thought adding: :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 100 :0 vt07 or some similar incantation to /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers would make xdm do it, but no. 75x75 every time. --

I think it would, but you said it was actually kdm, so try adding it to /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xservers

Yes, I found that with a "locate Xservers" shortly after posting, and it was the answer. Thanks to you and Verdi (who you just beat to the list with the correct answer :)) This is new to me. This box has been working fine for several months, until today when I had X crash on me. I ended up back at the kdm prompt. When I logged back in to KDE I had 75x75dpi. How could that have happened? I find it rather hard to believe that a hard exit from a busy KDE session would have neatly modified that file! --

If you're using kdm, you may want to check /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/Xservers. I usually simlink it to /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers, so need to modify at one place only. -- -- Verdi March --
