I have a APC Back-UPS and am using smartups-0.44.1-24 from the FTP update site for SuSE 7.0. It detects powerfailure (OB - On Battery) fine. However, it never detects the LB - Low Battery condition. To
Another ups program that looks pretty interesting (good article in Linux Journal last month or so) is apcupsd. I intend to try setting that up here in the very near future (assuming I still have the correct cable for my BackUPS ;) ). Does anyone have the standard (if there is such a thing!?) cable wiring for UPS / Serial port? I have a UPS that I bought 2nd hand, works fine, but I'd like to set up the software for it as well.
PS. It's a "Netstar" brand, if that means anything :-)

Don, check out NUTS (Network UPS Tool) at www.insecure.org. There is a lot of good info on UPS's w/ Linux there, and some cable schematics. AFAIK, the only 'problem child' is APC, w/ their funky cables that look like a serial cable, but have a couple wires swapped.
