Hi, I am having problems getting the mouse wheel to work on the subject mouse. It seems to be partially working, but not completely. For example, if I select text, and then press the wheel (click it), I get the expected copy+paste function. Yet, when I am using a web browser (mozilla, firefox and konqueror, I can not enable the scroll function. I can spin the wheel, and nothing happens. This is on top of the fact that none of the extra buttons on this mouse appear to be functional either. Has anyone seen/dealt with this type of problem before? Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config (yes, I'm sure it can be done in a GUI too) and find the section "InputDevice" that deals with the mouse. Make sure it has a line that reads Option "ButtonNumber" "5" and one that reads Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5" then restart X and see if it helps
Hi Anders, That was it. Thank you. My file had 2 sections for the mouse, one had the right settings (mostly) and the one that was being used did not. So, now it's working, and my thanks for the assist! Pete

I got all the 8 buttons of this mouse working by specifying the following in / etc/X11/XF86Config Section "InputDevice" Driver "mouse" Identifier "Mouse[1]" Option "Buttons" "5" Option "Device" "/dev/mouse" Option "Name" "Autodetection" Option "Protocol" "MouseManPlusPS/2" Option "Vendor" "Sysp" Option "Buttons" "7" Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7" EndSection and in ~/.Xmodmap added pointer = 1 2 3 7 6 4 5 Good luck, Alex.
