Some disturbing thoughts.....
Yeah that's really bad; the notion that M$ would do an extend and embrace on Linux.

No, that would be really good because: 1) It would be a victory for the open source model, or if you want, a clear defeat for "closed source" == Microsoft 2) It would send a strong signal to the markets that open source is the way to go, cutting off for good the doubts/questions that prevent millions of potential users to make the move to open source. 3) (Which is in 2) Hardware out of the box with open source drivers, and 4) More competition, lower prices. Only problem I see is that there are many people out there who have heard of linux but havn't ventured into it because of the difficulties that they may have also heard of. Those same people are going to buy it from MS simply because they figure MS will make it easier for them. Hate to say it, but this means that linux needs to become as easy to install as MS or for that matter Mac which in my opinion is even easier than MS so that those people won't flock to an MS brand of linux (if that ever happens).

Actually this is a psychological problem, not a technical problem.
Anyone who has ever had to re-install Windows on a PC will be well aware that installing Linux with YAST is way easier than installing Windows.
So why do people think that installing Windows is easier than installing Linux?
The answers easy - most people never have to install Windows, it comes pre-installed, but they do have to install Linux. Doing something is always more difficult than not doing something!
So what's the solution? Other than passing laws require all boxes to be shipped with Linux installed, I'm not sure. But we are going to have to break through this barrier, and reasonably soon.
