Speed comparison - SuSE 9.2 compared to Fedora Core 3
I was playing around with my old "test" laptop this weekend (Celeron 366, 256mb RAM, 20 gig HD) and decided to try Fedora Core 3 out to see what it was like. Now, I'm completely convinced that I want to use SuSE over FC3, but one thing I noticed with Fedora is there's a dramatic speed increase - everything feels more responsive. Both FC3 and SuSE 9.2 were running latest updates available, acpi=off, apm=on, FC3 had pretty much everything on for services while SuSE had most of the "extra" stuff off (ISDN, hardware probing, postfix, etc...) Anyone ever looked into performance tuning on 9.1/9.2 for a machine with decent RAM specs, decent HD space, but lacking in the CPU department? TIA Steve

For speed and performance I guess these are the ones to go for: Slackware,
Gentoo or Yoper.
For Software, User Friendliness, Integration, Tools, Updates, and Community:
Suse, Fedora or Mandrake.
Choice is nice.
