What is a Good Video Player?
What is a good multimedia player for SuSE 8.1 I've tried aktion and atrun but they both kinda disappoint me. I would like somethat that has support for a wide variety of multimedia files avi, divx, mpg, wmv, etc and the other features I dont care about. As long as it can play a wide variety of files well. Does anyone know of, or use a program for universal video playback that they're happy with? #---------------------- #Eric Bambach #Eric@CISU.net #----------------------

mplayer or xine. I sometimes use mplayer from the command line, and sometimes xine with the totem GUI. Both are excellent, with support for just about everything you care to throw at them, including DVDs, VCDs and web streams (even quicktime). You can get RPMs for SuSE 8.1 for both, including all other packages you need (codecs for the various formats etc.) from http://packman.links2linux.de I believe the mplayer packages there are built by the SuSE maintainer.

My wife had trouble with one avi file in Win ME. mplayer even played that one! Thbe only disappointing thing so far has been quick time. Thankfully, I hardly ever come across the quick time format. Salman

Just out of curiosity what is your problem with QucikTime? I have no problems with playing QuickTime clips on my computer. IIRC, the latest Mplayer will read Quicktime with the Sorenson Codec. -- JAY VOLLMER JVOLLMER@VISI.COM TEXT REFS DOUBLEPLUSUNGOOD SELFTHINK VERGING CRIMETHINK IGNORE FULLWISE
