But now I get to the difficult part (for me, that is): in KDE, how do I make kfm recognize extension .mpeg and start plaympeg automatically when I click on a *.mpeg file? I've read the kfm help, but it's not of any help to me!
I just went through this with LyX, so I think I can answer: In the blather below, substitute your app for my "LyX." In kfm, browse in your $HOME/.kde/... files, find the mpeg player. Then you need to set things up in two places, the .../applnk tree and the .../mimelnk tree. You may need to create a new mimelnk file (I did for LyX---just copy another one and change the obvious). In my case, in ~/.kde/share/mimelnk/text/lyx, I right-mouse on the icon to properties->binding. On the top line is a list of extensions, so add the ones you want there, and select LyX in the Default App list. But when I started, LyX wasn't in that list, so I had to go to the ~/.kde/share/applnk/SuSE/prod/text/tex/lyx icon and right- mouse on its properties, setting up the icon I wanted on the execute tab, and selecting text/x-lyx and text/lyx on the Application tab. I had created the x-lyx and lyx files, as root, in the system mimelnk directory. Maybe I could have got away with just copying them to my personal mimelnk directory. I was surprised at how little I had to do as root---maybe it was really nothing. By going back and forth between the .../applnk/... tree and the .../mimelnk/... tree, and telling kfm frequently to View->Rescan Bindings I got it to work. Hope that helps. It sure did, thanks. Hopefully in KDE2 all this will be a bit simpler. Even with your help it took me quite some time to get it working. With this kind of complexity world domination will never be reached! ;-) Paul. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/support/faq
