Hi, I am still fighting to get sound working properly on 9.3 (with SBLive 5.1). On 9.2 I had no problems, but after I did fresh install (not upgrade) of 9.3 I am experiencing endless problems. At the beginning, I had sound at low volume, adjusting it in Yast worked until next restart only. xmms was mute completely. After removing/installing sound with Yast several times I´ve got sound working in all applications at normal volume, but after first restart I have no sound at all. Tuning volume in alsa mixer and kamix do not help - the system still mute as fish. Anyone can suggest one-stop solution to solve it? ************************************************ *** with best regards *** Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru) *** Mac, Linux, DTP, Programming Web Site *** *** http://snow.prohosting.com/guru4mac/ ************************************************
Hi Andrei: There's a conflict with some of the sound setting in SuSE 9.1. Go to the support knowledge database and search for 'mute sound card'. Not sure if you're having the same problem in 9.3. Hope this helps, Cheers, Mike On Monday 09 May 2005 2:59 pm, Andrei wrote:

Hi, Mike, Thanks a lot. There is possible conflict between alsa mixer and kde mixer overwriting settings of the first. I did exactly what have been said in SuSE sdb, and still have no sound neither from SBLive neither from on-board CMI8738. Immediately after Yast Hardware Setup -> Sound I can hear sound test, but then nothing from any app. Everything was OK until I have installed 9.3 !!! I can even put back my old HD with 9.2 and sound is working! ************************************************ *** with best regards *** Andrei Verovski (aka MacGuru) *** Mac, Linux, DTP, Programming Web Site *** *** http://snow.prohosting.com/guru4mac/ ************************************************

Probably to try an entire fresh install of 9.3 I have seen so many reports of 'flakey-ness' on this list that it has become a valid alternative. PeterB
