Ex user directory still there.
I am using SuSE Pro 7.3 and am wondering what you need to do after a user has been deleted from YAST 2 to get rid of the home directory of the user. Why isn't it deleted automagically when the user is deleted from YAST 2? Cheers, Brian
Hi, Just use "rm -fr dir_name", or "rm -fri dir_name" for interactive mode. -- Verdi March -- On Monday 03 June 2002 04:27 pm, Brian Durant wrote:

A bit schizophrenic, don't you think? -f means "never prompt", -i means "always prompt". rm -rf to remove everything no questions asked, rm -ri to get a "yes/no" prompt on every file. Ah, you're right, a mistype... -- Verdi March -- On Monday 03 June 2002 04:31 pm, Anders Johansson wrote:

Many thanks Anders. Is not deleting the home directory of an ex-user after deleting the user, a bug or feature in YAST 2? Best, Brian

I would say it's a feature. When you delete a user, whether you actually remove him from the passwd file or just disable logins, you don't necessarily want to get rid of the files that user owned. Deleting files is a much, much bigger change than just deleting a user. A user can be reinstated by adding a line in one or two files. "undeleting" files can be trickier. I, for one, would definitely want to be a little more discriminate about deleting the files. //Anders -- `When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, `it means just what I choose it to mean -- neither more nor less.'
