Allen, I have been using 3.1 for a few days now and am impressed! I had some problem getting Konqueror working as root but having solved that it appears that 3.1 is smoother and quicker. That is a strictly subjective evaluation! No stats to compare. I like the look and feel so well that I am getting ready to put it on 4 other machines including two laptops. Maybe someone else can give you some objective evaluation. It was worth the trouble getting the little kinks out. Richard

Just tab browsing alone is worth upgrading. I was a long time Galeon user before switching to Konq and that have been the main thing I missed. Other than that the speed improvement is also worth the upgrade. Here is a list of new features: http://promo.kde.org/3.1/feature_guide.php You decide for yourself :-). I like tabbrowsing too, but found konqy's tabbed browsing worse than mozilla's, in mozilla it is possible; 1) to open a frame in a other tab 2) to have the toolbar holdin the tabs always present -> less "flickering" 3) the tabs don't "fall off" the tab toolbar (they are being made smaller all the time. Any having the same observations, or is it just me. -- Richard Bos Without a home the journey is endless

It is worse than Galeon's tab browsing too, but hey the feature is still new so give them time to sort it out.
1) to open a frame in a other tab
Temporary work around is to right click on the frame and choose "Open in new tab". Also, middle clicking on a link will open it up in a new tab.
2) to have the toolbar holdin the tabs always present -> less "flickering"
Agreed.
3) the tabs don't "fall off" the tab toolbar (they are being made smaller all the time.
I think the ideal way to do it is to shrink them until they hit a minimum width and than do it the Konq way or else the tabs will be too small to be meaningful. Dunno if you've seen this .. http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_tabextensions.html.en .. which makes the Mozilla tabs even more useful. sjb

Just tab browsing alone is worth upgrading.
For me it's Konq's ability to go to my libraries web site and use the java/javascript card catalogs (Finally!) without having to switch browsers, well done. I do wish there were close buttons on the tabs (but I haven't had time to really research if this is possible or not). I don't regret switching, but I haven't gotten past a couple of quirks yet. Go for it. -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

The only problem I have run into is the Konqueror problem which can be worked around. Also I have a small problem with the locale settings. The amount of improvements in KDE 3.1 make it well worth the upgrade. Printing from web pages seems to be far better. Kappfinder functions a lot better. -- Regards, Graham Smith ---------------------------------------------------------
