I can log into single user console with my root account, but I can not log into the GNU GUI with the root account. Can anyone help with what is going on Thanks Richard Tracy

what's "the GNU GUI"?

Your login manager is probably set to not allow root logins. How to change that depends on which login manager you're using. But you really don't want to log in as root anyway. Work as user, and go to root for the few things you need to using "sux"

Is sux better to use than su? If yes, why? Thanks, Jerome

sux takes care of the X security details for you thus allowing you to run X programs as other users. Charles -- "Never make any mistaeks." (Anonymous, in a mail discussion about to a kernel bug report.)
