Hi, does anybody know how to use X programs after su-ing to another user? It used to be that I could simply enter 'xhost +localhost', and it would work. But in more recent Suse distributions (currently running 9.1), it doesn't work like that anymore. I can get it to work by ssh-ing into localhost with the -X flag, but I don't want the encryption overhead for a local user. Thanks for any help, Claus

Use 'sux' instead of 'su'

No, the equivalent command in 9.1 is 'xhost +local:' but if you use 'sux' instead of 'su' you don't need it, as sux will transfer the X authentication cookie to the other user

I've got 9.1 here and it works for me... Check to make sure your $DISPLAY environment variable is still set correctly after you su. -Ti
I apologise if this has been discussed and I've missed it, but what's happened to "gnomesu" (or gtksu)? I cannot run YaST from Gnome - it complains about gnomesu missing, though occasionally, not always, kdesu will pop up. Usually though, I have to run the ncurses version in a terminal. There don't seem to be any recent versions of gnomesu available. David
