No scheme, nothing useful. Philippines, so the UPS may also be here. What is the brand, and does it connect with a 9 pin serial connector to the computer.
Brand name ICA, model 681-B. 9 pin serial connector with an orange cable bought at their main office.
Right so. Computer is not connected to the UPS. On the UPS I have a tv set so I can check if after a certain time of use the right signal comes in.
That will work, but it is not the best to try and hope for the best. You need to use a voltmeter on the cable to test the pinouts. Do you have a voltmeter?
Voltmeter is available. But I think the easiest is to just try out all the genericups types until I find one that basicaly works. Than start using the voltmeter and the readings of the syslog files in order to find out the answers that I get against what I should get.
For the moment I am working on the permissions
bigone:/home/cons # genericups -a myups Network UPS Tools - Generic UPS driver 0.60 (0.50.0) UPS type: Generic RUPS model This program is currently running as nobody (UID 65534) /dev/ttyS1 is owned by user root (UID 0), mode 0660 Change the port name, or fix the permissions or ownership of /dev/ttyS1 and try again. Unable to open /dev/ttyS1: Permission denied
I seem to remember that error, but my ttySx permissions are 0660 root.uucp, so changing the owner is not a good idea. Try adding it to uucp group. This will all probably change when you get 8 .2.
