[opensuse] Is 11.0 ready for Virtualbox and Nvidia?
Hi Folks, I'm contemplating my first 11.0 install on amd-64 and I'm wondering if the binary version of Virtualbox (with usb) works with 11.0. The Nvidia binary driver is also of concern. Does anyone have any experience with these packages? Any issues? Hi Lew I'm using both - the nvidia binary blob driver for 3d effects (this works ok, but my laptop is crippled by a rubbish nvidia card,so I disabled it) as well as the current VB from the build service. I haven't tried USB with VB, but for booting basic Win XP desktops in both standard and seamless mode it works well. I haven't had so much luck with ndiswrapper, but I'll try again tomorrow. Good luck. Cheers Pete -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I have the binary nvidia running happily. It was installed w/o any probs by the installation system.. veddy nice.. even if I'm still not sold on thewobbly windows. There are other reasons to install the proprietary driver.. esp w/ flat panel screens.. the Samsung ones any way get kinda cranky w/o that nvidia driver.. Thanks to all who worked on the installation system especially.. it really is a surprise, and a wonderment.. installed everything I've needed so far,, kept all the settings I had and of course the saving of all your network settings, and hooking you back up.. I have yet to resort to my rather voluminous notes on putting a new version of Suse back to running all that it was before.. Kudos to all you guys, it's the easiest time I've had yet.. -- j We were born to follow our guiding star; and meet our destiny w/ glory -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

I'm using Virtualbox with Windows XP in 11.0 on my laptop. It works very well. I use it to communicate with a radio through a usb-serial converter with no problem. Bernie W1AZ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Lew, The vb binaries work great. Don't forget to load the guestadditions ISO. Also, For USB, for openSuSE in fstab add: none /proc/bus/usb usbfs auto,busgid=XXX,busmode=0775,devgid=XXX,devmode=0664 0 0 where XXX is the vboxuser gid from /etc/group. -- David C. Does anyone have any experience with these If I had the space on my AMD-64 computer I would try it. While it is 32 bit, I have SuSE 11 on my son's PC with an Nvidia card. He likes the games so I downloaded the Nvidia driver so I could get

What really amazed me is that while the binary was tied to the default kernel, I was able to download package from Nvidia and the install script compiles it so it works with my tampered kernel.
