Is it my imagination or do we spend more time discussing SCO vs. IBM then discussing SuSE lately. hmmm. I so wish this crap would just end so we can have some more rants about " Why SuSE doesn't give iso's. " or " Why doesn't my WinModem work. " *grin* Ok..back to the news. heh Ben -- The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in the opposite direction. ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org
Hi Ben, I agree!! But I think it has to do with how well 8.x is working. Think back a year or two; there was lots more "This piece of SuSE is broke" or "I get these wierd results when I..." But I must say only one or two of us has realized the way to benefit from the SCO thing is to do some day trading on SCO while it still has some grip on the presses imagination. I'm certain that this is exactly what the desperate dozen at the top of SCO are doing before the industry and the press finally realize that SCO and UNIX itself are superflous and un-needed. While I know that IBM can go as far as bribery when needed, in this case they just have to wait for SCO's case to implode of it's own in-sufficiency. My WinModem won't work because I called US Robotics and got them to send me a REAL COURIER instead. They had been so stung by the WinModem fiasco that they had a quiet policy to replace them for those who complained. AND I bet M$ didn't re-imburse them even $1 Keep Smiling ..................... Is it perhaps time to resurrect the off-topic list?

I thought about making a suse-ot@suse.com list the other day...maybe it's time.

Christopher, You may be right, since few are hesitant to use the ones already created for such things. Maybe one with suse attached to it's name would draw more users to it. So there really hasn't been an "off topic list" for sometime. It's been more like "put [OT] in the subject and let people filter." I would like an off topic list that I could shove into another directory. -- The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other going in the opposite direction. ---===---===---===--- mailto:ben@whack.org

Well Ben, actually there have been 2 spawned from the one we used so much before. OFB created one and Edificationweb created another, but I guess word didn't get around or nobody paid them much attention. Chris Klippel ran the OT list and stop for two reasons IIRC. One was that the spammers had infiltrated and were running amuck on his server - this gave Chris nothing but headaches in his attempt to secure it and keeps the subscribers happy. The other reason was that he changed distros and hence wouldn't be participating on the SuSE list any further. I personally agree that it would be very nice to have a semi-official suse-ot mailing list that I could filter into another folder. Then I could segregate the content much better between social and technical discussions. I will add my vote for an OT list either here or somewhere else for the list. I love to read/follow the ot stuff but do not read it all the time. If there was another list started, then I could filter it into its on folder like Ben said. jack

Then, it would be OT (meaning "On Topic") any thing written there, so it would loose "attraction" :-p X-) -- Cheers, Carlos Robinson

Hm, I'm in doubt. "Technical" discussions also serve a certain... well, social purpose. Unfortunately for many, SuSE Linux gets better and better, so due to a lack of problems they have to resort to OT subjects more and more. It seems to me that the best thing would be a certain balance between on-topic and off-topic discussions. Moreover, could a commercial company be expected to host an off-topic list?? S.H.
