Thunderbird from Windows to Suse 9.3
Hello, I have dual boot for Windows XP and Suse 9.3. In Windows I did not have a smtp server setup to send out mail. I needed to bring the email I had stored in XP to Suse, as that is what I primarily use. I use Thunderbird in both XP and Suse. I accidently erased my account settings in XP. I set up the exact same account, and even copied the folders into that accounts folder. It did not bring up my mail. The folders and email are still on my XP partition. All I want is for the e-mail to be in Suse. In Thunderbird you cannot import from Thunderbird. Is there a way to bring a copy of the e-mail folders/files into Suse from the XP partition (which I can access through command line or konqueror). I don't need them in XP, and don't want to fiddle around in XP trying to restore it, just to forward it to myself. Thank you. - James W

It "should" be simple... Thunderbird stores all the email in it's own
folder.. .in Windows I think it's in "Documents and Settings"
somewhere... don't have a copy of WIndows anywhere to check. In
Linux, it's in:
$HOME/.thunderbird/

$HOME/.thunderbird/
.default/Mail In my case I keep the data in a different place that is available to either the Windows or SuSE. James, If you have it some other place besides the default, just go to Tools, Account Settings, Server Settings. near the bottom is Local Directory: with a browse button you can use to change the setting to wherever your files are. If you don't see the Local Directory: then you are probably seeing a bug with Thunderbird. Stretch the window size vertically to make Local Directory appear.

Hi there, I use TB both on windoze and linux machine. I put all the mails in a fat32 partition under the TB_mail folder, then just after installing TB i choose "Profile Manager" form the win menu OR launch "mozilla-thunderbird -P" from the linux console. In this way i say to both systems WHERE my email is archived and the account settings are shared over the two systems. I got problems when an extension of TB is available only for one of the two OS and then i got some funny "renderization" problem from TB itself .... when i'm on win basically i launch "Thunderbird safe mode", on linux i've got to find the switch, but generally on the mozilla forums everything is pointed out ... just my (useless?) 0,02€ -- Nicola -=KOOLINUS=- Losito web: http://www.koolinus.net icq:62837984 / 110447626 jabber-ID:koolinus@jabber.linux.it msn: koolinuz@hotmail.com Y!: koolinus@yahoo.it
Thank you all for your replies. I didn't realize how platform independent the e-mail files actual are. I previously had tried to just copy my saved folder, but it looks like I need to pull the entire profile to get it to work. I have been away from my computer for a day and a half. When I get home I will see if I succeed. Thanks again! - James W
